No conformation email was received after order. Next day received email to contact Alan at extension 243 in regards to my order. First Alan confirmed my address. Alan asked about what types of cameras I have. I told him I have both an SLR and Digital and asked if I had any lenses. I told him I have some Minolta lens that I planned to use. He said they wouldn't work. I told him someone said they would. He asked if I had any questions. I said I wondered if the Body came with a battery. The Canon Digital Rebel Xti (400D) is the second last in the line of Canon digital Slr aimed at the enthusiast shop segment. The successor to the Digital RebelXt (350D) and the original Digital Rebel (300D) camera indeed marked a turning point in the shop for digital Slr.
It was launched in October 2006, exactly 3 years after the first of the series (Canon Digital Rebel), with features that eluded many professional cameras. Entertaining digital features such as a sensor cleaning theory (Eos Integrated Cleaning System), the possibility of photograph styles, auto focus sensor, 9-point support, F2.8 maximum aperture and a super Entertaining display of 2.5 inches.

The Canon BG-E3 battery grip holds two NB-2LH batteries or six AA type batteries in a tray. If two NB-2LH batteries are inserted, power is supplied simultaneously by both battery packs. If both NB-2LH packs are fully charged then the number of frames you can capture are doubled -- ~1200 pictures without flash or ~800 pictures if the flash is used 50% of the time. At colder temperature (32°F) that number drops to ~900 or ~700 if flash is used 50% of the time.The BG-E3 adds a portrait grip with a vertical shutter release complete with AE/FE-Lock button, AF point selector button, exposure compensation button and Main Dial.

While it is a goods for the amateur photographer, it does not offer all the features of the Canon Eos 30D or the Nikon D200. Its photograph capability falls just short of those cameras. Obviously its top shutter speed of 1/4000s and burst of speed of 3 frames per second (fps) does not match the specifications of the professional cameras but meet the needs of most developed amateur photographers (prosumers).
The camera is without fail small, which can be a qoute for some, especially if your hands are large or have large lenses, so I would propose the battery grip (Canon Bg-E3 Battery Grip) which also furnish place for a second battery. Balancing the camera with the larger grip and adding a more accessible shutter button when shooting photos vertically.
The screen deserves a isolate episode thanks to valuable improvements over previous models (Digital Rebel and Digital RebelXt). It now offers a wide viewing angle of 160 degrees and is Entertaining enough to be able to view photos taken in direct sunlight. It is a pity that the small Lcd of previous models and will not be able to compose the photograph over the screen as it allows some reflex digital technology with LiveView.
After using Lcd screens from point-and-shoot, I have to admit that more than once it bothers me to have to use a viewfinder. It is also a great surprise to prosumers that a camera in this price range soldiery you to use the visual viewfinder when framing your photos. The newer Rebel Xsi, does away with this restriction.
Other reviews I've read, made negative comments about the battery life (Canon Nb-2Lh Rechargeable Battery) that comes with the camera (720 mAh). Especially, when the competition offers batteries around 1500 mAh. Someone else good reason, to opt for the extra battery grip (Canon Bg-E3 Battery Grip).

While there may be plenty of good reasons to buy a Canon Digital Rebel Xti, not every camera is good for every photographer. So, depending on what's foremost to you, and how you take pictures, you should probably be aware of the short comings of this camera. There's plenty of information out there about how great this camera is, but for just a slight or two, lets be brutally and critically honest.
The Canon Digital Rebel Xti, is guilty of underexposure in any and all lighting conditions, specifically with the auto setting turned on. Even Canon will have trouble disputing this claim. I heard from one Xti owner that went as far as to send in pictures taken from two detach Xti cameras to Canon, and ask what was wrong. All the pictures were dark and underexposed, and Canon told them, that yes the camera used to take those pictures was defective. Not realizing of course, that the pictures came from two brand new cameras. Apparently the question is well with the auto settings. If your the type of photographer, that never uses the out of the box factory settings, then this may not be a issue for you. Otherwise just take a pass, there are plenty of other good cameras you should be considering.
Canon Rebel Xt Battery
The Xti has a rather annoying habit of locking up when swiftly taking a consecutive whole of pictures in a row. The shutter just locks up and issues a busy signal. agreeing to Canon, this is general and the camera is performing as designed. At first glance, this may seem like just a case of not sufficient battery power for the impel of the flash. But, no, it's well the way the camera is designed to work. The Xti by hand comes right out and says this is a security highlight intended to protect the flash. Again, you need to judge if this is an issue for you. If your the type that likes to fire off twenty or so pictures in a row, then this camera will likely annoy you to no end. Otherwise, this is well a non issue.

One last thing. It's pretty standard, that all digital cameras come with an Lcd screen. It's pretty nice to be able to use the Lcd screen while taking a picture, so the don't need to have the camera right in your face. The slight point and shoot digital I bought for my daughter went so far as to eliminate the view finder altogether. Apparently that constructor realized using the Lcd is the popular choice of most users. With the Xti, Canon made the unusual decision to go the other way. The only way to see what photograph your taking, is to use the viewfinder. The 2.5 inch Lcd is very nice, you just can't use it to see what photograph your currently taking. It's only used to review pictures already taken, or to adjust the camera settings. I guess they're just trying to save battery power. Who knows? Once again, it's all a case of what's foremost to you and how you take photos.
